Even before quarantine, I’ve always been a fan of girl’s night in. BUT, quarantine did teach me a thing or two about throwing my next girl’s night in: it doesn’t need to be so over-the-top. It’s girls night in, not prom. In fact, it’s given me kind of a chill approach to planning.
Pre-quarantine, everything had to be perfect. The table, the food, the plans planned to a tee. Post quarantine, I’ve learned that while there might be a place for type-A planning at times, and old fashioned girl’s night in doesn’t have to be difficult. It doesn’t require a ton of work. And if I’m hosting it, that relaxed vibe is actually way more fun for me too.
How to Make an Old Fashioned Using DeKuyper Classic Ol’ Fashion Liqueur
First things first, every old fashioned girl’s night in requires a signature drink, and this new chill Laura doesn’t want to spend all night shaking and mixing. Instead, I’m opting for an easy-to-make Old Fashioned cocktail using DeKuyper Classic Ol’ Fashion Liqueur because it’s the effortless way to create a classic Old Fashioned cocktail. And noooo, this is not one of those posts that promise you something is easy, and then tell you to buy 28 ingredients and spend 3 hours in the kitchen:)
It’s literally a two-step process! Combine DeKuyper Classic Ol’ Fashion Liqueur in a glass with bourbon - stir and enjoy. That’s it. Done. Fineto. You are certain to love the exceptional quality ingredients and hassle-free at-home cocktail making. Old-Fashioned Girl’s Night in Ideas
Since I decided for my most recent girl’s get-together to keep my drink easy, I wanted everything else to be as well. Starting with the tablescape. I used to buy fresh flowers, press my table-runner and go to extremes to make a table setting that was just going to be wrecked 5 minutes in.
Instead of purchasing fresh flowers, why not pick what’s growing in your own backyard? Literally. I cut stems of Queen Anne’s Lace at varying heights to create the prettiest table bouquet I’ve had in awhile. And since I might have a million of these flowers, I see no reason to not have a fresh bouquet all year long.
Activity-wise, we played High-Card Polish. Never heard of it? Well, that’s because it’s mostly made up….but fun nonetheless. Set as many coordinating polishes on the table as you’d like (or if you’re feeling especially mean, use ones that don’t match). Deal a card, and the high card of each round, gets to pick a color for one nail. Players pick their color in the order they rank in with the loser picking last. For a twist, take colors out or rotate different ones in. Fewer colors (just enough for everyone) usually makes for a more exciting game.
Lastly, let’s talk food and snacks. Keep it as simple as possible. Order in or just create a smorgasbord of favorites, like popcorn mixes. I actually witnessed a fight over popcorn. And to think, I used to spend hours preparing huge meals when all we really want is each other’s company.
