Best Skincare Lines to Make You Want to Try Something Else?

Do you ever feel a little inundated with skincare options? I meeeean….there’s a lot of them! And if you’re wondering if skincare is important, well, just peruse the skincare aisle of your local retailer and you can see based on all the options it is, BUT, it can be super overwhelming.

Today I’m sharing my thoughts on a few brands you may have seen recently, or maybe not, and if they’re worth spending your money on, or opt for something else instead.

One of the more difficult things about skincare is that it works well for some people and not for others. So regardless of what I say, if you’re curious about a particular brand, definitely check it out for yourself as I’m not a skincare specialist.

Beauty Powder Collagen Youtheory Reviews

Starting with something that has quickly become a favorite of mine, from Youtheory - Beauty Powder.

This best seller from the line is so well loved for it’s ability to promote skin elasticity, supporting healthy collagen production and boosting skin’s antioxidant power. Translation, it can reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

While that sounds great, it doesn’t stop there. Beauty Powder contains both lutein and zeaxanthin which we find naturally concentrated in the macular region of the retina, and both have been clinically recognized for the ability to help protect our eyes from harmful UV rays and blue light exposure. Not only that, research shows each helps to fortify skin’s antioxidant defenses and provides benefits such as skin hydration, elasticity, radiance and improved complexion.

You’ll also notice on the packaging a little something called Verisol® collagen peptides. This clinically-supported collagen supports noticeably firmer and smoother skin with fewer wrinkles. According to the Youtheory website, it also helps to, “stimulate skin’s metabolism and counteract the loss of collagenous extracellular matrix from the inside, improving the skin surface structure, reducing cellulite and supporting nail health.”

Beauty Powder also delivers hydrating hyaluronic acid plus Vitamin C and biotin. Hyaluronic acid benefits for skin are huge as it’s a vital component of the human body, found in joints, skin and connective tissue. The ultra-pure hyaluronic acid in Youtheory Beauty Powder encourages skin hydration.

Biotin is good for both hair and nails, making Beauty Powder your all-around everything for all of your beauty concerns. If you’re wondering how much biotin per day is safe, The Mayo Clinic has found that there have been no side effects for dosages of up to 10 mg per day (Beauty Powder has 3mg).

Do you use Vitamin C for skin? Benefits can be numerous but this powerful antioxidant can have an effect in the formation of collagen inside the body. This will potentially thicken the dermis and diminish fine lines.

This citrus flavored powder can be mixed with just about anything, but I usually stir it in a cup of hot water and sip it like tea. I personally like the mild blend of flavors and I’m sure in the warmer months it will be just as good over ice.

My Take: Worth the $23.99. I started taking this in December because the winter is BRUTAL on my skin. I didn’t notice any difference immediately, but definitely thought my tone had improved within a couple of weeks. This past week, (about 12 weeks of consistent usage), I actually thought my skin looked better BEFORE I put makeup on.

Youtheory products are manufactured in the USA.

City Beauty Products

Next up, a brand everyone seems to be curious about, City Beauty and their Multi-Action Scultping Cream and Uplift Firming Serum. Be sure to use code LAURAY for 15% off sitewide:)

Before I get into the review of the above two products, I do want to tell you how much I LOVE the City Lips products. The colors, formulas and the fact that I do think it actually has plumping properties makes these go-to lip options for me.

The Multi-Action Sculpting Cream is supposed help skin look firmer, tighter and more lifted. It’s good for all skin types and formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates or sulfates. For best results, you’re to use twice a day as the last step in the skincare routine.

UpLift Firming Serum is ultra-concentrated designed to help skin look firmer, smoother, and more lifted within 30 minutes. Again, this is good for all skin types and also formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates or sulfates.

Some people claim these City Beauty options are the best products for wrinkles and while both are designed to help give users younger looking skin and fewer wrinkles. While I’ve noticed in recent years my skin looks a little blah, it’s not yet really wrinkly, so I might not be the best reviewer of these two products….

My Take: I didn’t really see the difference after continued use of either of these products. They didn’t do anything to irritate my skin, but I didn’t see the results they mention I likely would. I will tell you to check out their reviews, as they are GLOWING. Like I said, my skin just might not be right for these products at the moment.

City Beauty also manufactures their products in the USA.

Introducing, DIME Beauty

One last product, this one from DIME. The Restorative Night Cream. Use code LAURA_YODER20 for 20% off DIME products via their website.

My skin has issues. It’s so oily, and yet always feels dry. Makes no sense, right? While I tend to use light or oil-free moisturizers during the day, at night, I like to slather on something with some impact. This definitely has impact!

Sulfate free, paraben free, phthalate free and cruelty free, Restorative Night Cream uses ultra-mild ingredients that mimic the skin’s own structure, helping cells naturally renew themselves during the evening to deeply hydrate and rejuvenate.

Not only does Restorative Night Cream restore dry, damaged skin and fight the aging process, it uses what DIME refers to as “superstar” ingredients - Squalene, Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter (among others) to accomplish this.

Squalene, if you’re not familiar, is a highly effective emollient and natural anti-oxidant. Consistent use has shown it can help reduce wrinkles, eliminate scars and reverse UV damage all while fighting UV radicals.

My Take: Restorative Night Cream is a huge YES for me!!! Especially in the winter, with not just the cold dry air, but the constant wind, this was a welcome treat each evening. Although the formula is rich, it doesn’t feel greasy or oily.

DIME’s skincare products, founded as a means of providing clean, affordable beauty products to women of any age, with specific age-related concerns, are manufactured in the USA. Their mascara, lip stains and Power Patches are manufactured overseas by a FDA sister company.
