We all want to smell good, but for many years, the lack of B.O. meant spreading chemically laden aluminum blends of deodorant on our pits and not thinking twice about it.
Thankfully, we’re becoming smarter about the choices we’re making with our foods, with our cleaners and with our beauty products, including deodorant!
The Crystal Magnesium Solid Sticks have become a go-to of mine and I cannot recommend them enough! Formulated without aluminum or baking soda, these sticks help us smell good naturally. They smell fantastic, dry quickly, leave no white marks and (drumroll, please….), actually work!
Why Aluminum in Deodorant is Bad
There’s a little bit of controversy as to whether or not aluminum in deodorant really is bad for you.
To understand that question you first have to understand the difference between antiperspirant and deodorant. The short version: antiperspirant, thanks to aluminum, helps to reduce sweating all-together by blocking sweat glands. Antiperspirants also use ingredients to help prevent body odor.
Deodorant, on the other hand, really only takes care of the stink - deodorants are not intended to inhibit our sweating.
The constant blocking of our sweat glands, although it might seem convenient, isn’t actually good for us. It can lead to fluid build-up from, basically, clogged pores.
While everyone can agree antiperspirants do inhibit sweating from blocking our glands, some also argue aluminum has been linked to all sorts of diseases, including Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. Most government agencies and doctor’s state that although true to some extent, the amount of aluminum needed to provoke the onset of those diseases is far more than we can get via rubbing our pits once or twice daily for literally decades.
That might be true, but I tend to take the stance of not trusting agencies or establishments that can and do make a large amount of money from corporations or lobbyists to say and do certain things. Call me crazy😉🤷🏻♀️
Not to mention…can any of them say exactly how much is too much? It’s in your antiperspirant. It’s in the can you’re drinking from. It’s in the foil you just wrapped your sandwich in. It’s in your pots and pans. My thought, less is more and if you can eliminate it somewhere, why not?
The easiest way to eliminate it? Change to Crystal Deodorant (and stop drinking pop, haha)!
